The village of San Giovanni Profiamma, old Forum Flaminii, located along the main road Flaminia, about four kilometers from Foligno. Forum Flaminii, founded in 220 a.C. along the path of the oldest Flaminia, therefore important stopover and transit trade, City Hall was the center with full citizenship and independent of Fulginium. As stated in Passio Sancti Feliciani (VI-VII centuries), where he is also remembered the presence of the basilica excavated in 1929-1930 together with the mosaic, conservato nella sezione archeologica del Museum of Palazzo Trinci, the center became even Episcopalian.
In 1832 have been discovered here even spas.
The church, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, was built with the role of parish 1231 built on the remains of a ninth-century, a pre-existing early Christian basilica. It stands in front of a large square with an imposing facade on which stands a rose window flanked by two windows coupled; the left shows a frieze of Roman. The portal is decorated with small figures of monstrous animals that symbolize sin. In the right frame is depicted in relief with a bishop's miter he wears on his right hand a volume on which is written the hope PAX VOBIS, while with his left hand stabs a dragon with a pastoral.
Theinternal, to Romanesque, has a nave and chancel raised.
On the right wall was built a stone sarcophagus caciolfa, work of local artist of the second half of the sixth century, the center of which stands a Greek cross flanked by decorative geometric nature.
Theapse, although well-preserved, is compromised in the decoration. It remains only a fragment of a votive fresco depicting the Our Lady of Mercy.
The central staircase, thirteen steps and realized for the restoration of 1903, conduce all’altar greater, dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament, whose shelf rests on a column of Roman. Left in place of the altar is a painting dated 1625, work of Marcantonio Grecchi, depicting the Our Lady of the Rosary with Saints and Angels.
Under the chancel is the crypt, the oldest part of the church, divided into three aisles by six small columns of bare. Of particular interest is the second aisle on the left, consists of a lintel dated to the eighth century and decorated with ornaments made up of Christian symbols (peacocks facing - a typical early Christian motif to symbolize the immortality of the flesh - vines and circles).
Of great value was, also, a wooden statue depicting the Madonna and Child, presumably dating from the seventeenth century, currently preserved at the Museum Diocesan Chapter of Foligno.
