The districts are born in the medieval period for purposes of defense when the city was no longer closed by the city walls. The district of the Cross or White Cross has obscure origins. Tradition has it that it came to the scene of the martyrdom of San Feliciano, patron of the city. The noble district of Giotti is the oldest city; Historical sources date its origins to the fifth century even. The etymology of the name is controversial; until recently it was believed that derived from the Goths, which they placed their camp in the ward boundaries. LA MORA
Originally the "Societas Morae" extended from the area of the church of San Carlo to Piazza San Francesco monastery and the adjacent; after, with the reorganization of the boundaries, absorbed the territory of several districts abolished, ranking in the "square" surrounded by the Republic Square (formerly Piazza Grande),Via Mazzini, Piazza San Domenico and Via Gramsci (Via the Mora already). The name derives from a measure Pugilli ancient land which amounted to one hundred feet. The district was founded by exiles from the town of Todi, to whom was given the Pugilli (a few meters) of land to build their homes. The emblem of the district, eagle on a white field, reminiscent of the nearby town. The reading of heraldry tells us that the authority is, the power, the dominion and sovereignty. The teachers are puellari nell'addobbo and lighting rivaling neighbors enemies of the Sword. The rivalry between the two districts stems from the boundaries; disagreements among the largest is reminiscent of 1953 when the knight was apostrophized by Pugilli Spatari, that 1952 had won the prize, to leave the carousel to hang. Probably the Spatari presaged the end result because on that occasion the rider Ravagli Aurelio won the first prize of the district.

The district takes its name from Spatari, a population that settled in that part of the city and built a port called Spatara. According to heraldic tradition, The silver sword is the symbol of St. Paul. The current population of the district has maintained the restless spirit of predecessors. Often attend the schisms and losers migrate to other districts often succeeding to lead them to victory. The Sword has one of the most picturesque parts of the territory of the city. Spatari is on the recovery of the porch of Conce, so called because originally there were several items of leather tanneries.
