This is a settlement of the Augustinians, its parish that still officiate. It is a very ancient church, built, second Jacobilli Ludwig "about the year 1094 of San Bonfilio vescovo a Foligno"And then granted (1120) the Benedictine Congregation of Holy Cross Sassovivo. Bishop returned dependence (1281), was entrusted (1348) the monks of the Congregation of Santa Maria di Monte Oliveto. Waived by the Olivetan 1434, The monastery was given to the friars hermits of St. Augustine.
Theinternal the church, renovated in mid-eighteenth century, has several canvases and boards. To remember, particularly, two tempera on wood by Niccolò Pupil: Coronation of the Virgin and Saints Anthony Abbot and Bernardino of Siena (transept), completed by 1495 and, on the second altar on the right, Nativity with Saints (1492), polyptych, transferred by the French in Paris 1812 and returned in 1817 devoid of the dais, which is still preserved at the Louvre.
In sacristy remember a Crucifixion, fresco by Bartolomeo di Tommaso and Madonna and Child, tempera on panel of the Sienese school of the fourteenth century.
Valuable organ, by Louis Gallicans (1784), placed in one of the choirs by an unknown author.
Worthy of note is the Renaissance portal, parts of which formed the architecture of the chapel containing the altarpiece shows Alunno, eighteenth century that the project had to be demolished and, instead, was reconstructed in the front because the contract with the builders (1748) did not provide for the construction of a new portal.
To report, also, the presence, in the north transept, traces of frescoes from different periods (from the fifteenth to the seventeenth century), discoveries in 1998 on the occasion of the structure sull'agibilità surveys after the earthquake of 1997.
In the convent, suppressed in 1860, was hosted by the School of Arts and Crafts, established in 1873; But now there is place the Comprehensive School "Giuseppe Piermarini". In the cloister, of which was mentioned by 1206, sources attest to the presence of a fresco cycle in the lunettes with raffiguarazione of coats of arms.
